Obituary: Gerald “Jerry” Knapp, Jr., 53, of Sheridan Township

Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Knapp Jr., 53, passed away unexpectedly on January 27, 2023. Jerry was born July 16, 1969, in Detroit. He moved to Shelby in 2004 and in 2009 he relocated to Branch.

His love for the outdoors and peace and quiet landed him in Sheridan Township where he resided until his passing. 

Jerry was a devoted partner and father. He could always be found outside doing something whether it be chopping wood, building some contraption, or tinkering with something in the yard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, caring for his hobby farm, and being a dedicated father and friend. Although Jerry’s circle was small his loyalty was fierce. He would drop anything and everything to help a friend in need or be there for his children. His warm smile and stubbornness will be missed greatly by his children, Greyson Knapp, AJ Chance, and their mother, Keri Knapp. 

He is also survived by his fiancé, Jessi Bower; stepchildren, Rebekah Cochran, Telaine (Jessica) Bower Sr., Kristen (Mike) Stout, and Darien Bower; grandchildren, Kreedan, Gracelynn, Telaine Jr., Caydence, and Lilah; father, Gerald Knapp Sr.; stepmother, Karla Winningham; siblings, Ann Marie (Curt) Briggs, Kyle Knapp, Abigail Richards, and Naomi Lyons; brother by choice, Mark Scheuer; cousins, Kenny Knapp, Marcia (Dave) White; many nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends that became family. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved Busha, Helen Marie Knapp. 

A cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be planned for later in the spring. In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to help with funeral expenses and his children.
