Police busy with Friday the 13th crashes 

MASON COUNTY — Early morning snowfall Friday, Jan. 13, wreaked havoc for motorists, with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office reporting nine crashes on the icy roads. No one was injured.

The following is police activity in Mason County over the weekend:

Friday, Jan. 13, 2023:

  • 7:31 a.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, Pere Marquette Highway south of US 10, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 7:50 a.m., (MCSO), vehicle/tree crash, no injury, Rasmussen Road east of Jebavy Drive, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 7:54 a.m., (MCSO), three-vehicle crash, no injury, Rasmussen Road west of Bertha Lane, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:12 a.m., (MCSO), one-vehicle crash, no injury, Jebavy Drive south of Rasmussen Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:28 a.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 east of Jebavy Drive, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:30 a.m.,  (MCSO), three-vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 and Jebavy Drive, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 8:44 a.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, Pere Marquette Highway north of Oceana Drive, Summit Township.
  • 8:54 a.m., (MCSO), identity theft, 8900 block of East Barothy Road, Branch Township. The complainant advised they learned an unknown person attempted to take a credit card out in their name.
  • 9:13 a.m., (MCSO), two- vehicle crash, no injury, US 10 and Jebavy Drive, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 10:43 a.m., (MCSO), two-vehicle crash, no injury, Decker Road and Jebavy Drive, Hamlin Township.
  • 1:53 p.m., (MCSO), fraud, 6100 block of Curtwood Road, Pere Marquette Township. The complainant reported unauthorized purchases on a credit card.
  • 3:34 p.m., (MCSO), retail fraud, Dollar General, 5500 block of West US 10, Pere Marquette Township. The case remains under investigation.
  • ​3:37 p.m., (Ludington Police Department), a 30-year-old Ludington woman was cited for driving on an expired license, ​Tinkham Avenue and Nelson​ Road, City of Ludington.
  • 5:15 p.m., (MCSO), larceny of pain medication from a residence, 2700 block of North Campbell Road, Sheridan Township.
  • 7:20 p.m., (MCSO), warrant arrest, 4700 block of North Beaune Road, Hamlin Township. A 31-year-old Ludington woman was arrested on two outstanding warrants. for failure to appear in Muskegon County and probation violation in Mason County.

Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023:

  • 12:56 p.m., (MCSO), gas drive0off, $10 in fuel stolen, Scottville Shell, 100 block of East State Street, City of Scottville.
  • 7:30 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, US 10 east of Darr Road, Custer Township.
  • 7:46 p.m., (LPD), a 35-year-old Ludington woman was arrested for domestic violence, ​300 block of North Gaylord Avenue, City of Ludington.​ The victim, a 38-year-old Ludington man, was not injured. The suspect was lodged in the Mason County Jail.
  • 8:06 p.m., (MCSO), a 25-year-old Custer man was arrested for domestic violence following a 911 call reporting a fight between two adult brothers, ​5600 block of South Eden Lake Road, Eden Township.

Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023:

  • 6:15 a.m., alarm activation, Amber Township.
  • 3:19 p.m., (MCSO), a 47-year-old Custer man was arrested on an outstanding Felony failure to appear warrant from Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court, 2500 block of East Johnson Road, Custer Township.
  • 5:20 p.m., (MCSO), a 32-year-old Boyne Falls, Michigan woman was arrested following a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a business on US 10. Deputies located one of the subjects reported to have been involved and made a traffic stop at US 10 and Amber Road in Amber Township. It was learned during the investigation that the woman had an outstanding criminal bench warrant for failure to appear in Mason County on a fraud charge.
  • 6:05 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, Jebavy Drive south of Dewey Road, Hamlin Township.
  • 7:34 p.m., (MCSO), car/deer crash, no injury, US 10 west of US 31, Amber Township.

Monday, Jan. 16, 2023:

  • 12:03 a.m., (LPD),a 29-year-old Ludington man was arrested on an outstanding failure to appear warrant issued by Newaygo County’s 27th Circuit Court, ​Atkinson Dr​ive, City of Ludington on a methamphetamine possession charge. Ludington police drove the man to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office parking lot where they met a Newaygo County sheriff’s deputy. The man was turned over to Newaygo County.
