Obituary: Douglas Libby, 68, of Baldwin

Douglas Alan Libby, 68, of Baldwin, formally of Detroit, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. 

Doug was born on March 18, 1954, the son of Quentin “Red” H. Libby , Jr.  and Susan (Amico) Libby. He graduated in 1972 from Redford High School in Detroit. Shortly after graduation, he attended the police academy, where he earned his badge as a police officer. He worked as an officer for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Detroit Police Department, and Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Doug also helped the youth of his community by being a D.A.R.E. officer and had worked at GEO Correctional Facility. In 2005, after over 40 years wearing a badge, Doug retired. During that same year, on May 21, Doug married Michele (Anderson) Libby. 

Doug enjoyed building homes, furniture and even remodeling homes. He also enjoyed working on cars. Doug enjoyed being outdoors too, where he could hunt. He enjoyed photography, not only taking but also developing cherished photographs of family. He especially loved the time he had with family.  

Doug is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Ronald) Carr, Rebecca (Jack Andre) Strassburg, Ashley (Jeff) Sartin, Jennifer Bidwell, and Jennifer (Jacob) Hoffman; son, Wayne (Heidi) Van Aelst; brother, Donald Libby; grandchildren, Quentin E., Aidan, and Justine Carr; Alexander and RaeAnn Hodder and Jayden Andre; Jacob, Jesse and James Sartin; Dominic, Russell and Stefan Bidwell; Brianna and Emily Hoffman; Damien, Kaiden and Lincoln Van Aelst; and great-grandson Orion Steiger. 

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Quentin “Red” H. Libby, Jr. and Susan Libby; and brother, William Libby.

There will be a celebration of life in the spring, time, and date to be determined by the family. For more details, please contact the family.
