SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central Board of Education members, along with the public, got preview of the new K-12 Immersion Technology Room on Monday, during the board’s regular meeting. The room, located in the high school, is one of the first in the country to offer 4-dimensional technology. It features seven projectors, along with multiple sensors that allow students to have interactive learning experiences. The room also features 4-D effects such as flowing air and scents.

The room’s creation was initiated by MCC Technology Director Mike Baerwolf and Business Manager Kristie Courtland-Willick. “The idea came about from a discussion between Mike Baerwolf and myself as we were talking about how to engage students in learning from their time away with COVID and how it makes sense to use a method that many of them love and use such as video games, phones, etc.,” Courtland-Willick said. “Mike helped with the research and I wrote the room into the grant and we were off and running.”

Willick said the room was paid for by American Recovery Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds.

The room’s development has been overseen by MCC K-12 Technology Coach Miguel Quinteros with technology purchased by Echo Educational Technologies, a division of Echo Healthcare of Sarasota, Fla., which has developed the technology for healthcare.

Quinteros said the amount of educational programs available continues to grow and students and staff will also have the ability to create their own programs.
