Obituary: Michael Companion, 79, of Scottville.

Michael Allen Companion, 79, of Scottville, formerly of Bridgman, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022. 

Michael was born on May 26, 1943 in Bridgman, the son of Carl and Lodine (Yeske) Companion. He graduated from Bridgman High School with the class of 1961. Michael married the love of his life, Joan Schoenfeldt, on May 16, 1964 and later was drafted into the United States Army where he was stationed at Camp Kaiser in Korea during the Vietnam War. Michael worked for Whirlpool Corporation and Strefling Oil Company, but spent most of his career working for Blarney Castle Oil Company in Scottville. He retired in 2006 after 33 years of dedicated service. 

Michael was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville where he was on the board of trustees. He was a former member of P.M. Motoring Club and volunteered as a driver for the American Cancer Society for many years. Michael was a collector of elephant figurines and knives, enjoyed old cars and gardening. Everyday spent with his grandchildren put a smile on his face. 

Michael is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Companion; children, Brett (Susan) Companion of Wyoming, Mich. and Julie (Ryan) Ohse of West Olive; grandchildren, Tyler (Ashleigh) Companion, Taylor, Jacob and Courtney Companion, Bryce and Erica Ohse; his sisters, Margaret Bembenek, Jackie (Larry) Horak, and Carla (Gary) VanGilder; and his brother, Carl (Leann VanderPloeg) Companion. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Michael’s parents and brother in law, Jim Bembenek, preceded him in death.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at noon at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Michael will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery in Custer Township. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or Our Savior Lutheran Church.
