LUDINGTON — Ludington police are investigating a bizarre case of “water bullets” that were fired from a Jeep at House of Flavors customers and beach goers at Stearns Beach Thursday evening, July 21, according to Cpt. Steve Wietrzykowski of the Ludington Police Department.

Police are asking that anyone who was struck by the pellets or witnessed the incident to contact the department.

“Last night around 9 p.m., people in a blue Jeep Cherokee type vehicle drove by House of Flavors on Ludington Avenue and through Stearns Beach,” said Cpt. Wietrzykowski. “One of the occupants fired some type of ‘water bullet’ from an unknown type of launcher. The Ludington Police Department has heard of people who were struck by the pellets at House of Flavors and Stearns Beach.

“The incident was called in to 911, but no victims have made formal complaints with our department. The LPD Beach Patrol attempted to follow the suspect vehicle, but was not able to safely catch up to get the plate number.

“The LPD is encouraging any victims to come forward to report the incident. We prefer in-person contacts with victims to photo document any welts or injuries from the pellet impacts.”

Barry Neal, owner of House of Flavors Restaurant said he did not witness the incident but said he had a family tell him what happened.

“Anytime someone tries to harm someone else, even with something that may seem harmless like these ‘water bullets’, well, that’s just not cool,” Neal said.

Victims or witnesses should call Central Dispatch at (231) 869-5858 to make a formal report of the incident. “The Ludington Police Department will investigate the matter and forward appropriate charges to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office.”
