LUDINGTON — Two people were arrested today by Ludington Police Department in connection to several incidences Thursday night involving people being shot at by “water bullets.”

LPD received complaints Friday about “water bullets” being fired from a Jeep at House of Flavors Restaurant customers and beach goers at Stearns Park Thursday evening, July 21, according to LPD Cpt. Steve Wietrzykowski.

Police are asking that anyone who was struck by the pellets or witnessed the incident to contact Sgt. Mike Fort on Saturday, July 23, between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 231-869-5858 or Capt. Wietrzykowski on Monday, July 25, after 8 a.m.

“Last night (Thursday) around 9 p.m., people in a blue Jeep Cherokee type vehicle drove by House of Flavors on Ludington Avenue and through Stearns (Park) beach,” said Cpt. Wietrzykowski. “One of the occupants fired some type of ‘water bullet’ from an unknown type of launcher. The Ludington Police Department has heard of people who were struck by the pellets at House of Flavors and Stearns (Park) beach.

“The LPD Beach Patrol attempted to follow the suspect vehicle, but was not able to safely catch up to get the plate number, Wietrzykowski said.

“The LPD is encouraging any victims to come forward to report the incident. We prefer in-person contacts with victims to photo document any welts or injuries from the pellet impacts.”

Barry Neal, owner of House of Flavors Restaurant said he did not witness the incident but said he had a family tell him what happened.

“Anytime someone tries to harm someone else, even with something that may seem harmless like these ‘water bullets’, well, that’s just not cool,” Neal said.
