Suspicious burn under investigation.

The following is recent activity of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office:

Monday, June 20, 2022:

  • 8:47 p.m., deputies were dispatched to Freeman Road and US 31 in Grant Township for a suspicious burn. “Someone reported seeing a large amount of smoke in the area,” said Chief Deputy Oscar Davila. “Deputies determined the fire was on property of a business in the area, and there was no one around the fire. This case is still under investigation.” Grant, Free Soil/Meade and Fountain Area fire departments responded to the pallet fire.

Tuesday, June 21, 2022:

  • 8:30 a.m., two-vehicle crash, Pere Marquette Highway and Iris Road, Pere Marquette Township. A driver sideswiped another vehicle while attempting to pass it. Hazardous action was reported.
  • 10:04 a.m., car/deer crash, US 10 and Nelson Road, Pere Marquette Highway, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 11:12 a.m., single-vehicle crash, US 31 off-ramp and US 10 eastbound, Amber Township. The driver exited the off-ramp to East US 10 and sideswiped a traffic reflector causing minor damage. Hazardous action was reported.
  • 3:44 p.m., illegal dumping, 9000 block North Cooper Creek Road, Grant Township. The caller reported finding bags of trash in the area that were illegally dumped. The case is open pending further investigation.
  • 10:35 p.m., car/deer crash, Stiles and Hansen roads, Amber Township.
