GOLDEN TOWNSHIP — Riverton Township Fire Department and Ludington Fire Department assisted on a massive house fire near the Lake Michigan shoreline late Thursday evening and early Friday morning. Eight fire departments responded to the fire at 6635 Ridge Road.

No injuries have been reported. It is believed no one was inside the house.

Pentwater Fire Chief Jonathan Hughart said fire crews were expected to be on scene most of the night and into the morning fighting the fire that ripped through the two-story home at 6635 Ridge Road.

Firefighters from seven departments including Pentwater, Hart, Shelby-Benona, Walkerville, Crystal Township, Grant Township and Mason County’s Riverton Township responded to the scene. Ludington Fire Department’s Harbor One fire boat was called at 1 a.m. to assist extinguishing the fire from Lake Michigan.

Also assisting were the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, Pentwater Police Department, Life EMS, and the Department of Natural Resources.

A long, narrow driveway to the Lake Michigan estate made accessing the fire extremely challenging.

The fire was called into 911 “when someone  from the beach saw white smoke in the area,” said Chief Hughart.

Firefighters were pumping water from Pentwater Lake at the boat ramp on Longbridge Road.

”It’s undetermined at this point,” said Chief Hughart of the cause during a brief interview with OCP at the scene around midnight. More details will be available today on OceanaCountyPress.com
