Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering and honoring persons who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The holiday is currently observed every year on the last Monday of May. It is not a holiday set aside to honor veterans, that is Veterans Day, which is Nov. 11. Armed Forces Day, commemorating active military personnel and the armed services, was observed on Saturday, May 21.
