Hart man sentenced to 1 year in jail for using coffee pot as weapon.

LUDINGTON — A Hart man who used a coffee pot to assault another person was sentenced to a year in jail and two months probation Tuesday, May 24, 2022 in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court. Sabastian Moore, 29, of Hart was sentenced to serve a concurrent sentence on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon (felonious assault) and three counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer during a hearing in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, May 24, 2022. As part of a plea agreement, Judge Susan Sniegowski sentenced Moore to serve 12 months in jail, with credit for 151 days served and two years probation. Sentencing guidelines in the case are 10-23 months.

Moore was arrested on Dec. 24, 2021 by Ludington Police Department following an incident on Washington Avenue in the City of Ludington. A coffee pot was used as a weapon, said Judge Sniegowski. During the incident, Moore assaulted three police officers.

Moore also faces other charges in Jackson County and Calhoun County.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time, Mr. Moore,” Judge Sniegowski said. “It’s not often when I read a pre-sentence report that I find shocking. I’ve seen a lot in 27 years practicing law and it just amazes me the things we are seeing lately. The lengths you went to in this case to try to create a story to try in some way to get around what is happening, just leaves me scratching my head as to what actually happened here, what is fabricated and what is not. It’s just a bizarre situation overall.”
