82-year-old Hamlin man dead after being struck by vehicle.

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — An 82-year-old Hamlin Township man died Thursday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle on North Jebavy Drive. Emergency crews were initially dispatched to the 2600 block of North Jebavy Drive, north of Fisher Road, at 2:06 p.m. 

According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, preliminary findings by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Crash Re-Construction Team reveal a 2016 Ford Escape, driven by a 23 year-old Howell woman, was northbound on Jebavy Drive when she struck the pedestrian, who was attempting to cross Jebavy (eastbound) after retrieving his mail.  The man was struck in the northbound lane.

“Upon arrival, Mason County deputies learned the crash involved a vehicle and a pedestrian,” Sheriff Cole said. “The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Although the case remains under investigation, preliminary findings do not suggest speed or alcohol contributed to the crash and the driver is cooperating with investigators.”

Cole said names are being withheld until family can be notified.

Emergency units responding to the scene included MCSO, Michigan State Police, Hamlin Township Fire Dept., Ludington Fire Dept., Mason County Victim Services Unit and Life EMS.
