Earth Day celebration scheduled for April 23.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A Few Friends of the Environment of the World (AFFEW) will present its annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church of Ludington, 5810 W. Bryant Rd. 

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Invest in Our Planet.” The event will include many topics of interest including a live reptile show featuring Michigan native turtles presented by Nature Discovery. Many organizations and groups will be represented at information booths. A tour of U Dig It Community Garden will be offered along with a guided hike with Dave Dister.
Event Schedule
10 a.m.: Doors open

10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Informational booths

11 a.m. to noon: Green investing; meet the “Grand Slam” of Michigan turtles. 

11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.: U Dig It Community Garden tours. 

Noon to 3::30 p.m.: Live painting with Marie Marfia

12:10 to 12:55 p.m.: Guided hike with Dave Dister. 

1 to 2 p.m.: Building a bluebird trail; vermicomposting for the garden. 

2 to 3 p.m.: Music with String-a-Longs.

3 to 4 p.m.: Green burials; energy transition and solar power for the home.
