Beekeeping class to be held March 5.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — The Scottville Beekeepers of Mason County will hold an Introduction to Beekeeping class on Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mason County Reformed Church, 45 S. Amber Rd.

The class is free. Participants are asked to bring a canned or dried food item to be donated to a local food pantry.

During the first portion of the class participants will have the opportunity to learn firsthand from a cross-section of Mason County’s most experienced beekeepers. Hands-on activities are planned for the afternoon sessions. The class will provide a basic foundation for anyone interested in becoming a beekeeper. It will cover current best practices in beekeeping including bee biology, installation, safe handling, maintaining a hive, pollination and what to expect to see in the hive as the season evolves.

Regular club meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Occasional meetings scheduled at local apiaries will provide real time experience. Mason County Bee Supplies, will have equipment on demo/display and for sale.
