RIVERTON TOWNSHIP — The body of James Peter Gowen, the 56-year-old Mason County man reported missing since last week, was found Monday, July 19, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“Mr. Gowen was reported missing at 12:45 p.m. on July 15, 2021 by concerned family members and friends,” said Sheriff Cole.

“An extensive search for Mr. Gowen started Thursday afternoon with MCSO deputies checking farm orchards by vehicle and foot. A search by air utilizing the sheriff’s office drone was conducted Friday of corn fields in the area. Saturday and Sunday K-9 Diego and Deputy Baum conducted ground searches in the area.  

“On Monday, July 19, 2021 MSP K-9 conducted searches in another area of Meisenheimer Road and, at approximately 4:30 p.m., an MSP K-9 located Mr. Gowen’s remains several hundred yards south of his residence.

“We encourage people struggling with depression to seek help by calling the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.”
