Suspect allegedly rear-ends patrol car during police chase.

LUDINGTON — A 19-year-old Ludington man was arrested by Ludington police Friday, June 25, shortly before 3:30 a.m. for fleeing from police and drug possession after leading police on a chase and rear ending a patrol car, according to Cpt. Steve Wietrzykowski.

The officer attempted to stop the man who was driving a 2002 Dodge Neon for having no license plate and speeding on Ludington Avenue near Staffon Street.

“The man did not stop when the LPD officer initiated the traffic stop at Ludington and Rath,” said Wietrzykowski. “The man sped up; drove west on Ludington Avenue to Lakeshore Drive; drove south on Lakeshore; and drove east on Loomis to James Street where he struck the rear end of a second Ludington patrol unit.”

No one was injured in the incident. The suspect was lodged in the Mason County Jail.

“The crash was worked by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office,” said Cpt. Wietrzykowski. “The man ran at least three stop signs while he fled from police.”
