WSCC president receives favorable review.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees will consider renewing President Scott Ward’s contract during its regular meeting, scheduled for Monday, June 21 at 4 p.m. A budget hearing will be held at 3:45 p.m. The meeting will be held in the college’s MBT Room in the Administrative and Conference Building.

The college president is normally evaluated by the board annually with consideration for a pay increase. Because of the pandemic, the board did not evaluate Ward in 2020.

“Last month, the board evaluated President Ward and found his performance met expectations, which is our highest rating,” stated Board Chair Sherry Wyman in a memorandum to the board. “As you know, this is the meeting at which the board considers changes to President Ward’s contract and compensation.”

The board’ executive committee met on June 10 and is recommending the following to the trustees:

  • An additional two years to the term of Ward’s contract with an expiration of June 30, 2024.
  • Reimbursement for educational expenses not to exceed $9,000.
  • An additional $3,000 to Ward’s salary compensation.
  • An additional $1,500 to Ward’s annuity.
  • An additional $100 per month vehicle allowance, totaling $850 per month.

Ward’s salary for the fiscal year of 2021-2022 will be $153,000. The president also receives an additional annual compensation of $6,000 to “encourage him to be active in social and community activities.” The amount is prorated and paid with his regular compensation. The president also receives an annuity in the amount of $18,000 annually to be forwarded to an investment company selected by the president.
