Hart man pleads guilty to aggravated stalking, resisting police.

LUDINGTON — A 27-year-old Hart man pleaded guilty in 51st Circuit Court Tuesday, May 25, to felonies of aggravated stalking, two counts of assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and third-offense habitual offender.

Kevin James Kaiser, whose last known address is 215 S. State St., has been lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond since the incident one year ago.

Kaiser was on probation for domestic violence involving the same victim when he committed the offense May 1, 2020 in the City of Ludington. He assaulted two Ludington police officers, according to his testimony Tuesday.

In exchange for his plea, Kaiser will be sentenced to five years probation and 90 days on an electronic tether. He will be sentenced to time served as his upfront jail term. 

Aggravated stalking is punishable by up to five years, and assaulting/resisting/obstructing police is a two-year felony.

He has subjected the victim to “continuous harassment,” said Mason County Assistant Prosecutor Beth Hand.

Both he and his father, 58-year-old Jeffery Allen Kaiser, were suspects in another aggravated stalking case that occurred May 17, 2020 in Scottville. Charges against the younger Kaiser will be dismissed in exchange for his plea in the other stalking case Tuesday, said Mason County Prosecutor Lauren Kreinbrink. “We received approval from the victim before moving forward.”

Charges are pending against his father. However, Jeffrey Kaiser has been convicted in federal court on felony charges of felon in possession of a firearm (two counts) and felon in possession of ammunition, said Kreinbrink. “He may be looking at a 15-year minimum sentence (in the federal case),” she said. “I am currently debating what I would like to do with his state charges.”

The pair were arrested following a reported breaking and entering in progress on Taylors Court north of Broadway Avenue.

The younger Kaiser was charged with aggravated stalking and attempted first-degree home invasion. 

Jeffery Kaiser, whose last known address is 209 S. Rowe St., Ludington, faces charges of accessory after the fact to a felony — aggravated stalking and accessory after the fact to a felony — attempted home invasion. Both are felonies punishable by up to five years in prison.

The younger Kaiser had been in a two-year relationship with the victim, said Mason County Sheriff Cole previously. He also had a personal protection order against him to keep him away from her.

Kevin Kaiser was previously convicted in Mason County of manufacture/delivery of marijuana and third-degree criminal sexual conduct, said Judge Susan K. Sniegowski. His sentencing is set for next Tuesday, June 1, at 3 p.m.
