Toddler in critical condition after falling in pool.

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition at DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids after falling into a swimming pool Monday, May 17, shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

When Mason County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene, the child was not breathing, said Sheriff Cole. According to dispatch information, the location was in the 6800 block of Illinois Street.

“When the first deputy on scene arrived, he found the child’s father performing CPR on his daughter,” said Sheriff Cole. “The deputy took over CPR until Hamlin Fire and Life EMS arrived.

“The investigation revealed the child got out of the house unnoticed and fell into the pool.”

The toddler was flown by Aeromed to DeVos.

Michigan State Police — Hart Post, Hamlin Fire Department, Life EMS and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit all responded to the scene.
