Ludington man tased while fighting deputies.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 29-year-old Ludington man was tased by Mason County sheriff’s deputies after fighting with them behind the Comfort Inn Hotel on West US 10 Saturday, March 13, around 6:30 p.m., according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Deputies responded to the scene following several calls “reporting a subject screaming at motorists and looking in vehicles,” said Sheriff Cole. “When found, the subject attempted to charge at deputies. He was eventually tased and fought with deputies before being taken into custody.”

The man, who faces two felony counts of resisting and opposing police, was lodged in the Mason County Jail.

  • 8:43 p.m., a 40-year-old Ludington woman was arrested for operating while under the influence of drugs following a traffic stop, Pere Marquette Highway near Chauvez Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 11:27 p.m., a 32-year-old Baldwin man was arrested on two outstanding Mason County failure to appear warrants, US 10 and Tyndall Road, Branch Township. One warrant is a criminal bench warrant for failure to appear on a driving while license suspended (DWLS) charge, and the other is a misdemeanor failure to appear traffic warrant.

Friday, March 12, 2021:

  • 6:10 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Fountain Road west of Victory Corners Road, Victory Township.
  • 5:32 p.m., a 45-year-old Ludington woman was cited for open intoxicants following a traffic stop, Rasmussen Road east of Jebavy Drive, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 9:38 p.m., damaged roadway, Wever Road, Branch Township. The complainant reported holes in the roadway believed to be caused by a subject “doing burnouts” on the road.
  • 10:22 p.m., a 41-year-old Fountain man was arrested for third-offense operating while intoxicated following a traffic stop, Stolberg Road east of Benson Road, Sheridan Township.
  • 11:35 p.m., a 43 year-old Scottville man was cited for DWLS following a traffic stop, Pere Marquette Highway and Iris Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 11:48 p.m., a 32-year-old Onekama man was arrested for second-offense DWLS and two outstanding warrants, Sixth Street and Sherman Road, Pere Marquette Township. One warrant was a criminal bench warrant for contempt of court, and one was a misdemeanor warrant for probation violation out of Montcalm County.

Saturday, March 13, 2021:

  • 1:44 a.m., a 45-year-old Manistee woman was cited for DWLS following a traffic stop, Main Street and Broadway Avenue, City of Scottville.
  • 12:27 p.m., alarm activation, Hamlin Township.
  • 6:06 p.m., a 26-year-old Fountain man was arrested following a traffic stop for fourth-offense DWLS and carrying a concealed weapon after a 9mm pistol was found in the front seat, US 10 and Benson Road, Branch Township.

Sunday, March 14, 2021:

  • 3:07 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, US 31 south of US 10, Amber Township).
  • 6:41 a.m., one-vehicle hit-and-run crash, no injury, US 10 and Brye Road, Amber Township. A report will be forwarded to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office for review and potential charges.
  • 11:47 p.m., one-vehicle crash, with injury, Tallman Lake Road near Decker Road, Branch Township. A 24 year-old Fountain man received non-life-threatening injuries after the vehicle he was believed to have been operating left the road on Tallman Lake Road and struck a tree. He was transported by LIFE EMS to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for treatment, and the case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
