Scottville man arrested following traffic stop.

SCOTTVILLE — Lancelot Christopher Peebles, 27, of 306 E. State St., was arrested on Jan. 20, 2021 by Scottville Police Department following a traffic stop that occurred on the 400 block of North Main Street.

According to Chief Matt Murphy, a Scottville police officer pulled over a vehicle, driven by Peebles, traveling North Main Street and discovered that Peebles had a suspended driver’s license. Murphy said Peebles became very agitated and began to yell and scream at officers. “Peebles refused to exit the vehicle and then had to be removed from the vehicle,” Murphy said. Scottville Police Department was assisted by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office. Peebles was placed in custody and was transported and lodged at the Mason County Jail safely.

Peebles was arraigned in 79th District Court and charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer, a felony punishable by up to two years imprisonment and/or a $2,000 fine. The police department was seeking warrants for an additional count of resisting, along with driving while license suspended and habitual offender, fourth offense.

In August 2020 Peebles was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony, following his arrest by Ludington Police Department. During that time, his residence was in the 500 block of Danaher Street in Ludington. According to court records, Peebles was allegedly a victim in a gun assault that took place in that same block on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020. See story here.

According to a records search at the 79th District Court, Peebles has had 11 criminal cases against him dating back to 2010.

Bail was set on this recent charge at $7,500, 10% cash/surety. A probable cause hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3 at 2 p.m.
