BRANCH TOWNSHIP — A 29-year-old Fountain man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies on a felony of discharging a firearm in a residence and misdemeanor charges of domestic assault and simple assault Sunday, Jan. 3, shortly before 6 a.m. in the 6100 block of East US 10 in the Village of Walhalla after allegedly firing off several rounds with a long gun inside a house, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Life EMS had originally responded to a medical call regarding a male who had reportedly fallen out of bed, said Sheriff Cole. Upon arrival of EMS, the paramedics had realized shots had been fired in the home. “EMS backed out and called for law enforcement,” he said.

“Arriving deputies made contact with two adults who were outside the home and learned a male subject was still inside. He was reported to have access to at least two long guns and had fired multiple rounds off inside the home during an assault. It was learned through interviewing the adults that the suspect had physically assaulted a female he had been in a relationship with. During the assault, a long gun was pulled and several rounds fired. It was also reported there were two small children in the home during the event. The children had been removed by the two adults during the initial fleeing of the home.

“The Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team (SERT) was activated and was able to take the subject into custody without incident. Deputies reported observing numerous bullet holes in windows and walls at the scene. The victims, a father and his daughter, were not injured. The suspect remains lodged in the Mason County Jail.”
