Nellis releases first children’s book.

LUDINGTON — Ludington resident Debbie Nellis recently released her debut children’s book titled “Max Rocks: Island Adventures with Mackinac Max.” The book tells the story of Mackinac Max, a turtle, who explores the rock formations on Mackinac Island.

“My husband Jeff and I were at a bookstore on Mackinac Island and I noticed that there weren’t a lot of children’s books about adventures,” she said. “I always read books to our children when they were growing up. One of our favorite books was ‘The Berenstain Bears: Spooky Old Tree.’ In that book, it really got the kids involved in the adventure. I decided to write a series of books that would bring kids on an adventure on Mackinac Island and teach them about various topics on the island.” In this book, Mackinac Max learns about the various rock formations on the island.

Nellis is self-publishing the book through Amazon, where it can be ordered. It is also being sold locally at Book Mark, 201 S. Rath Ave. Mackinac Max can be followed on Facebook and Instagram.
