Ludington man, Manistee woman die after vehicle goes into river.

MANISTEE — A Ludington man has been identified as one of two people who died on Nov. 12 after a vehicle he was traveling in drove into the Manistee River. Ryan David Jensen, 38, of Ludington and Charla Kay Bishop, 50, of Manistee were identified by the Manistee Police Department. 

The incident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 12 about 3:09 p.m. Emergency personnel were called to a report of a white SUV that had driven into the Manistee River channel near the 300 block of River Street. 

“Upon arrival, police and rescue personnel were unable to observe any vehicles or persons in the water,” according to Manistee Police Chief Ryan Glass.”

Dive team personnel were able to locate and recover one deceased adult female and one deceased adult male as well as the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident, Glass said. 

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. At the time of this release, investigators do not have any information indicating there were any more occupants in the vehicle when it entered the Manistee River Channel. 

Emergency personnel responding to the scene were Manistee Police Department, Manistee Fire Department, Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Manistee County Victim Services, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Mason County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and the United States Coast Guard.
