Bicyclist who died in US 10/31 crash identified.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole has identified the bicyclist who died Tuesday afternoon following a crash with a vehicle in the 2700 block of US 10/31 between Dennis and Stiles roads as Branden Michael Alpin, 37. Cole said Aplin’s driver’s license says he resided in Saginaw but he had recently re-located to Ludington. He had previously resided in Amber Township, according to past MCP court articles.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said witnesses reported an adult male was riding a bicycle eastbound on the eastbound paved shoulder of US 10-31. “The bicyclist, for an unknown reason, suddenly veered off the shoulder, to the left, and into the path of an eastbound passenger vehicle, which was traveling in the right lane,” Cole said.

The vehicle that struck the bicyclist was a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by Johnna Michelle Hanseon, 21, of Manistee, who was uninjured.

Alpin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency personnel responding to the scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Scottville Fire Department, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Ludington Fire Department, and Life EMS. The case remains under investigation.
