Motorist cited for running red light after hitting patrol car.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 56-year-old Scottville woman was cited for running a red light following a three-car collision involving a Mason County Sheriff’s Office patrol car Tuesday, Aug. 25, around 9:30 p.m. on US 10 at Brye Road, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

Minor injuries were reported in the crash, although the deputies in the patrol car that was struck were not injured, Sheriff Cole said.

The marked patrol unit was stopped in the left turn lane of eastbound US 10 at Brye Road waiting on a red light. “Deputies inside the patrol vehicle witnessed a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria westbound on US 10 run the red light and collide with a 2007 Chrysler 300, which was pulling off of Brye Road onto US 10 with a green light,” Cole said.

Following the initial collision, the Ford stuck the patrol car head-on. “The driver of the 2006 Ford — a 56-year-old Scottville woman — received minor injuries. The driver of the Chrysler — a 30-year-old Manistee woman and her 27-year-old passenger from Manistee — received minor injuries. None were transported to the hospital. Both vehicles in the initial collision received extensive damage, while the patrol car received minor damage.”

The two Mason County deputies — driver Austin Mendez, 25, and passenger Sgt. Mike Hanson, 43 — were uninjured. Everyone was wearing a seat belt.

Michigan State Police — Hart post, Pere Marqutee Fire Department and Life EMS responded to the scene.

The case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
