Ludington man arrested following assault with gun.

LUDINGTON — A 58-year-old Ludington man was arrested Thursday, Aug. 13, by Ludington Police Department on assault and weapons charges. 

According to Chief Timothy Kozal, LPD responded to the 500 block of East Danaher Street at 6:17 p.m. for a report of an assault with a gun. Officers later received a call of a man with a gun walking in the 200 block of South Rowe Street. 

“Pursuant to the investigation, probable cause was developed to arrest a 58-year-old male resident of Ludington,” Kozal said. 

LPD was assisted by Mason County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Michigan State Police troopers in an attempt to locate the suspect in the area of the 200 block of South Rowe. The Mason-Oceana Emergency Response team also responded to assist. Officers secured a residence in the 200 block of South Rowe Street in an attempt to arrest the suspect, Kozal said. At approximately 10 p.m. the suspect voluntarily exited the house. 

The man was lodged at Mason County Jail on numerous charges including:

• Three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
• Four counts felony firearm
• One count carrying a concealed weapon
• One count of assault with intent to rob while armed

A handgun was recovered during a search of the residence along with ammunition. The case will be presented to the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment.
