Divers search for missing boater.

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP— Divers from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team are searching Round Lake for a 47-year-old man, who jumped off a moving pontoon boat Saturday evening.

Emergency personnel were initially dispatched to the area at 7:09 p.m.

The man, who is from the eastern side of the state, was staying at Cabin Fever Round Lake Resort, 6503 E. Sugar Grove Road. According to resort owner Dan Quinn, a family was renting the entire resort for a reunion.

Sheriff Kim Cole said the man is presumed to have drowned. Crews remained on scene until 2 a.m. and resumed the search Sunday after daybreak.

Emergency units on scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Fountain Area Fire Department, Free Soil/Meade Fire Department, Hamlin Township Fire Department (rescue bot and command trailer), Michigan Department of Natural Resources law enforcement, Fountain Area Fire Department Auxiliary, MCSO Victims’ Services and Ludington Police Department (SONAR).

Sheriff Cole, who was on scene, said more information will be released when it comes available.
