SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — A husband and wife were injured Wednesday afternoon following a two vehicle crash at Custer and Sugar Grove roads.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 1:33 p.m. The crash occurred when a Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 70-year-old Ludington man was eastbound on Sugar Grove Road and pulled into the path of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by a 33-year-old Branch man, that was heading northbound on Custer Road. The pickup had the right-of-way.

According to Mason County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Adam Lamb, on scene, the driver of the pickup attempted to compensate for the impact and aimed for the front of the vehicle, most likely causing less injury to the Impala’s occupants.

The driver of the Impala and his 67-year-old wife were transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by ambulance. The driver of the pickup did not seek medical care.

Emergency units responding to the scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Fountain Area Fire Department, Custer Fire Department and Life EMS.
