Fire destroys Sherman Twp. barn.

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a barn on the Bruce Riffle Farm, 3086 E. Sugar Grove Road, Tuesday afternoon, May 5.

Emergency units were first dispatched to the scene at 4:26 p.m. The first unit on scene reported the barn was fully engulfed. Several cattle were in the barn, many ending up in fields across the street.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire within about 40 minutes.

Responding units included Fountain Area Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, Scottville Fire Department, Branch Fire Department, and Mason County Sheriff’s Office. Fountain Fire Department Auxiliary and Great Lakes Energy were also on scene.

Fountain Fire Chief Roger Berndt requested Scottville Police Chief Matt Murphy, a certified fire inspector, to investigate.
