Sheriff: Teens confess to over 20 break-ins.

MANISTEE — The Manistee County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police have been receiving numerous calls of break-ins and thefts throughout Manistee County over the last three weeks, said Manistee County Sheriff Kenneth Falk.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop Monday, April 20, involving a 17-year-old Kaleva man and a 16-year-old Copemish boy (who is a juvenile).

“Deputies found that the vehicle contained numerous stolen items,” said Falk. During the investigation, deputies were able to obtain confessions from the teens to over 20 break-ins. Over 40 stolen items, including rifles, pistols, crossbows, compound bows, game cameras and fishing equipment, were recovered.

The complaints are still under investigation, Falk said, and once the investigation is complete, the complaints will be sent to the Manistee County Prosecutor’s Office.
