Tribal police officer tests positive for COVID-19.

MANISTEE — A police officer with the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Department of Public Safety has tested positive for COVID-19, according to Director of Public Safety Robert Medacco.

“On Monday April 13, one of our officers was tested for COVID-19. The test came back with a positive result,” states Medacco. “For privacy concerns, the officer will not be identified.

“The officer was already off of work for a week prior to the testing,” he said. “The department had already put in place a schedule to mitigate the exposure time with other officers, along with strictly adhering to the guidelines from the CDC and local health department. The officers who worked the same shift have been quarantined for precautionary reasons. None of them have displayed any symptoms consistent with the virus.

“For public peace of mind, those that may have been in contact with the officer have been notified. We will continue to monitor the situation. The Little River Department of Public Safety is committed to providing a safe community for citizens of LRBOI.”
