Pair arrested for stealing camper valued at over $18,000.

GRANT TOWNSHIP — A Hamlin Township man and a Grand Haven man have been arrested for the theft of of a camper trailer from a business in the 10000 block of North US 31 last August.

“On Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, detectives with the Mason County Sheriff’s Office obtained felony arrest warrants for two subjects related to an August 2019 theft in Grant Township,” said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

David Gene Newman, 47, of Grand Haven and Jeromy Richard Sobers, 43, of 4716 N. Beaune Rd., have both been arrested on those warrants, Cole said.

Both warrants charge felony larceny over $1,000 but less than $20,000 and fourth-offense habitual offender. Newman also had five outstanding failure to appear warrants out of Mason County.

“The complaint originated on Aug. 26, 2019 and involved the theft of a 2019 26’ Cherokee Travel Coach camper trailer, valued at over $18,000, reportedly stolen off the lot of a travel trailer business (Vacation Trailer Sales, 10991 N. US 31) in Grant Township,” Cole said.

Officers with the Muskegon Township Police Department recovered the trailer on Sept. 9, 2019 and turned it over to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.

Sobers was arrested by Mason County detectives Thursday, and Newman was arrested by Ottawa County deputies Saturday.

Sobers is free on bond while Newman remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $7,500/10 percent bond.
