Open house will celebrate college’s new public safety training center.

FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College is hosting a grand opening celebration of the Riemer Regional Public Safety Training Center, 6050 N. US 31, on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m..

A brief ribbon cutting ceremony, by the Ludington and Scottville Area Chamber of Commerce and Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce of commerce, will be held at 1 p.m.

Tours of the new facility will be available along with a number of family friendly activities on the property surrounding the center.

There will be children’s games and car seat checks to ensure car seats are properly installed. Fingerprinting kits will be available and vehicles from local police, sheriff and fire departments will be open for families to explore.

Weather permitting, the North Flight Aero Med team helicopter, from Traverse City, will be nearby for public inspection. The service is provided by AeroMed Spectrum Health.

Throughout the open house, a number of fire and carbon dioxide detectors will be given away and refreshments provided by the Lakeshore Wiener Wagon & BBQ will also be available.
