Preferred Credit Union awards $500 to MCC teacher.

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief.

SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central Upper Elementary fourth grade student Sophia Quick has learned a valuable lesson in saving money. She has a student savings account at Preferred Credit Union, and as a result of her deposits, Sophia got to share a reward with her classmates.

Joy Jensen, Ludington branch manager said every year each of the six PCU branches draw a name of a student saver who has made a deposit in August and rewards that student with a $500 grant that may be used in a classroom of that student’s choosing. Sophia chose teacher Jessica Danielson.

On Wednesday, Joy and PCU associate Cheyenne Fuller, along with Principal Kevin Kimes surprised Mrs. Danielson with the grant announcement.

The other special part of the grant is that it is the first time it has been awarded to a Mason County Central student. Jensen explained that the drawings are random but each of the previous seven years the student has been from Ludington.

“This really makes a difference and we at Preferred Credit Union are proud to help our local schools,” Jensen said.

Danielson said she was certainly surprised and will use the money wisely.

Sophia is the daughter of Sara Spore and Mack Quick.
