ESD approves new hires.

AMBER TOWNSHIP — The West Shore Educational Service District board of education approved the hiring of Michael Harrie as behavior management/safety coordinator during its regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 10. Harrie is currently captain of Ludington Police Department and will be retiring from that position the end of this month.

Harrie was hired by Ludington Police Department in 1994, where he served as a patrol officer until 1999. In then served for one year on the State, Sheriff’s, Chief’s Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT) and as a detective from 2000 to 2002. He was then promoted to sergeant in 2002, detective sergeant from 2007 to 2009, and then captain.

Harrie received an associate degree with a major in criminal justice from West Shore Community College and attended Ferris State University and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy.

Other new hires at the ESD, approved by the board Tuesday, included:

• Laura McGannon, teacher consultant for the visually impaired. McGannon most recently has worked for the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District. She has a bachelor’s degree in special education from Eastern Michigan University, majored in early childhood at Grand Valley State University and received a master’s degree from Western Michigan University.
• Angela Garcia, paraprofessional for Career Technical Education (CTE) culinary arts. Garcia is the owner/manager/cook at Sand Baggers Bar and Grill in Hart.
• Brandy Heyboer, business services coordinator. Heyboer has been employed by the ESD as a staff accountant since 2016. Prior to that she worked for Broadstone Accounting in Ludington and West Shore Community College. She has an associate degree from WSCC and a bachelor’s degree from Davenport University with a major in accounting.
