Gerry Build makes transmission repairs easy for customers.

By Rob Alway, Editor-in-Chief

SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP — Gerald Fetters has specialized in transmission rebuilds for over 20 years. His skills are often the trusted source of local car enthusiasts who often fondly state with pride that their car is equipped with a Gerry built, which was the inspiration behind the name of his name business: Gerry Built Transmission Repair.

While his shop is located in northeastern Mason County, Gerald says he has agreements with many local shops that will remove the transmission for the vehicle owner. Gerald will then pick up the transmission, bring it to his shop and return the rebuilt product to the customer.

“I’ve worked in several markets, Grand Rapids, Ludington, Manistee, and just decided that it was time to be on my own,” Gerald says. “I still do a lot of work for customers in Grand Rapids but now work out of my home.”

Gerald prides himself in using high quality parts. He says he doesn’t cut corners and he rebuilds the transmission based on the customer’s vehicle usage needs. This often means the customer may pay more than others. “You get what you pay for,” Gerald says. “My customers know the reputation I have built and they know that with a Gerry Built, they will get something that lasts.”

Gerald says he uses brand name parts that have been proven to last.

He designed his shop for efficiency and credits his brother, Joel Fetters, for a lot of the work in setting it up.
