State police investigating baby’s death.

LUDINGTON – The Hart post of the Michigan State Police is investigating the death of a 2-month-old baby, and hospital child protection officials have determined the baby’s death was not accidental.

“On Friday, March 22, 2019, Mason-Oceana County Central Dispatch received a 911 call regarding 2-month-old infant suffering from a medical emergency at a Ludington residence,” states an MSP press release. “The infant was initially transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital by Life EMS, but later transferred via AeroMed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital (in Grand Rapids). The infant remained on life support at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital until his death on Friday, April 26, 2019.

“The Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Center for Child Protection has determined the child’s injuries were non-accidental. An autopsy has been conducted by the Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the medical examiner’s report is pending. The matter is currently under investigation by the Michigan State Police Hart Post, with the assistance of the Ludington Police Department.”
