Fire destroys Sherman Twp. home.

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a mobile home at 2460 E. Millerton Road, between Custer and Stephens roads, Saturday evening. Firefighters were dispatched to the home about 10:30 p.m. When the first fire unit arrived, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames.

According to Sgt. Jeremy King of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was started from food cooking on a stove. He said a male occupant had been cooking and left the room momentarily. When he returned, the kitchen was on fire. All the occupants got out of the house safely. Three adults and two children, ages 3-months-old and 18-months-old, were displaced. The American Red Cross was called to assist the occupants.

Emergency units responding to the scene included Fountain Area Fire Department, Free Soil/Meade Fire Department, Custer Fire Department, Branch Township Fire Department, and Mason County Sheriff’s Office. Fountain Fire Department Auxiliary also responded.

The fire was knocked down about midnight.
