Forest service conducting prescribed burns in Lake County.

LAKE COUNTY — The US Forest Service is currently conducting a prescribed burn in portions of Lake County. Residents of southeastern Mason County may notice thick smoke as a result.

The burn areas include:

Section 3 of Lake Township, 584 acres, near Gleasons Landing.

Sections 24, 25, 26 of Pleasant Plains Township, 753 acres, southeast of Baldwin.

The U.S. Forest Service uses prescribed fire as a management tool on National Forests System lands. During a prescribed burn, the Forest Service strives to minimize any inconvenience to the public. However, there may be increased traffic and you may smell smoke near the burn area. Fire personnel will return to the burn area for several days to ensure that the fire is out.
