E-Sports event is April 6.

LUDINGTON — The NBA 2K19 E-Sports Championship will take place on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Foster Elementary, 505 E. Foster St. The event is for ages 8 to 18; children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Sign in is from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. the day of the event. Players need to register by Thursday April 4 at GameStop, 4912 W. US 10, Pere Marquette Township or Backstage Hobbies & Games, 119 S. James St. There is a $5 registration fee. Download registration form here.

The event is sponsored by the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame, Safe Harbor Credit Union, Gamestop, Backstage Hobbies, Hungry Howies and Rent-A-Center.

“E-sports is a craze all over the world,” said Vic Burrell, president of the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame. “It is electronic gaming where individuals pit their respective skills in electronic gaming against others in head to head competition.  In this case, as the MCSHF, we wanted to permit the opportunity for our area students to opportunity to play the NBA Electronic version of the championship. Participants will play their way through the rounds of competition and ultimately the E-Sport NBA champion will be crowned.
“Electronic gaming is such a new field of activity, that colleges are offering bachelor’s degrees in gaming development.  In fact Ferris State University, is one of the top colleges in the nation offering education in the field of electronic gaming.”
