GRANT TOWNSHIP — Personnel from Grant Township Fire Department quickly extinguished am approximate five acre field fire in the 3700 block of West Sass Road Saturday evening, March 23. Fire Chief Ron Melchert said initial reports indicated that the fire was much larger than it actually was. Using the department’s brush truck and ATV, the fire was extinguished within minutes of the department arriving. The fire originated from a garbage burning pit.

Melchert said he believes it is the first brush fire reported in Mason County this year. He cautioned homeowners to use caution. Though the ground is still wet from the snow fall, recent high winds are causing it to dry out.
