LOGAN TOWNSHIP – A 33-year-old Custer man was arrested by Mason County sheriff’s deputies on charges of felonious assault, second-offense domestic violence and felony firearm Friday evening, March 8, after allegedly wielding a pistol at his wife and firing a shot during drunken rage, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

David Roberts Ray Mercer, Jr., is lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $35,000/10 percent bond.

When deputies arrived, they found Mercer in a tent behind the residence, and he was taken into custody, Cole said.

“It was reported by the victim that her husband had come home intoxicated and an argument ensued,” he said. “During the argument, the suspect reportedly grabbed a semi-automatic pistol while making threatening statements to the victim and a shot was reportedly fired. A physical altercation then followed between the male and female where the female was able to get the gun away from the male and lock herself in a room.”

The incident occurred at 8:23 p.m. in the 5200 block of Outlook Circle.

Deputies also recovered a loaded semi-automatic pistol and rifle from the residence, Cole said.
