Obituary: Clayton Schaner, 86, Ludington.

Clayton A. Schaner, 86, of Ludington passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019. He was born December 7, 1932 in Hart to Arthur and Mary Schaner. Clayton spent his entire life in Ludington. A 1950 graduate of Ludington High School, he went on to attend Western Michigan University for two years where he studied drafting and machining.

Clayton served his country from 1953 to 1955 in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and he also played baseball for the 82nd Airborne.

Clayton served a four year apprenticeship for a tool and die maker and was employed at Outstate Tool and Die Co., Handy Things, and Straits Steel. He also worked as a real estate agent for Findling and Abrahamson for eight years. Clayton spent some time as an audiologist at the Michigan Hearing Aide Co.

Clayton married his beloved wife, Sylvia on February 8, 1969. They spent many happy years together.

As a young man he was an avid pool player and three cushion billiard player. In 1991 Clayton was inducted into the Mason County Softball Hall of Fame. In 1988 he was a Lincoln Hills Golf Club champion and two time senior champion. Throughout the 1960s Clayton was one of Mason County’s premier bowlers. He had a 200 average. One of the most enjoyable things he looked forward to was canoeing the PM River looking for deer with one or both of his sons.

Clayton will be greatly missed by his wife, Sylvia; his sons, Craig and Larry; and his grandchildren, Cayla (Grant), Bryce, Josh, Jacob, and Joe.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time.
