Deputy recognized for helping mother, children.

LUDINGTON — Mason County Deputy Matt Murphy was recently recognized by Sheriff Kim Cole for his actions to help a single mother and her children during a time of need.

According to Sheriff Cole, during the early hours of Oct. 11, 2018, Murphy was investigating an unrelated call for service and heard young children crying. Upon further investigation Murphy found a single mother with several children living in disarray, with no food to eat.

On his own time and with his own money, Murphy purchased food and drinks for the children and also made contact with the Department of Health and Human Services to assist the family further.

“Deputy Murphy did not notify anyone of his actions and did not want any attention for his efforts,” Cole said. “It was with further investigation that this act of kindness was learned. Since that time, Deputy Murphy continues to check in on that family.

“It was my honor to present Deputy Murphy with the Sheriff’s Office Department Commendation tonight.

“It is actions like these that we at the Mason County Sheriff’s Office strive to deliver for our community and why we feel the deputies that we have are beyond value for our community.”
