Ludington expected to adopt rec. marijuana opt out ordinance.

LUDINGTON — The Ludington City Council is expected to take action on a proposed ordinance to opt out of allowing recreational marijuana dispensaries in the city during its regular meeting today. The ordinance had its first reading during last week’s council meeting. The council typically will take action following the second reading.

“While the majority of those who voted in Ludington voted to legalize recreational marijuana, there is no way to know for sure if that meant allowing dispensaries in the city (or not),” Interim Manager Steve Brock wrote to the Council. “That decision is left to you under the newly enacted law. In discussing the options with the city attorney, I believe the best course of action right now is to enact an ‘opt out’ ordinance to give yourselves time to see what hapens next at the state level and all around us. You have the option after that to amend the ordinance (or not) as you may deem appropriate and at the appropriate time.”

City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. in the municipal building, 400 S. Harrison St.
