Obituary: Virginia Lou Dodson, 90, Ludington.

Virginia Lou Dodson, 90, of Ludington passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018.  Virginia was born on September 19, 1928 in Custer, the daughter of William and Emma (Slagle) Bacon and graduated from Custer High School with the class of 1946.  In 1947, she married Emery Morell in Custer.  On March 23, 1965 she married Howard Dodson Sr. and they celebrated 33 years together before he preceded her in death in 1998.  Virginia was also preceded in death by her parents; her stepson Howard “Bud” Dodson; her brothers and sisters, Eugene Bacon, Clara Hissong, Lenora Hissong, Evelyn Bacon, and Merwin Bacon; her nephews William, Charles, and Roger Hissong; and her niece Pat Bloemsma.

Virginia worked over 25 years for the REA Electric Co-op in Scottville and retired from AAA Insurance in Ludington in 1993 after 20 years of employment.  She was also an active member of the Custer Gold Bar VFW Post 5096 Auxiliary.  In the summer months Virginia enjoyed spending time on the local golf courses with Howard, and in the winter you could often find her skiing with friends and family at Ward Hills in Branch.  Virginia also enjoyed spending time in her garden and always looked forward to meeting up with her friends at McDonald’s for coffee.

Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her stepson, Bob Dodson and wife Barb of Scottville; her stepdaughter Beth Chadwick and husband Willard of DePere, Wisc.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews, Leola Masten, Forrest Hissong, Jeannie Host, David Hissong, Debra Hissong, Carol Garn, Susan Ross, Ron Bacon, Patty Gilchrist, Sharon McRae, Lynn Dettloff, Barbara Bacon, and Marsha Perry.

Funeral services will be held for Virginia at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8 at Wyman Funeral & Cremation Services in Scottville with Rev. Tammy Bacon officiating.  Burial will take place at Brookside Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may meet with her family for a time of visitation on Saturday from noon until time of services at the funeral home.  Those who wish to remember Virginia with a memorial donation are asked to consider the Custer Gold Bar VFW Post 5096.
