CUSTER TOWNSHIP — A 43-year-old Custer man driving an all terrain vehicle died Sunday morning after hitting a deer. According to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole, the man was driving southbound on Stephens Road, south of US 10, when he struck the deer, causing him to lose control of the 2018 Polaris ATV, which rolled over and ejected him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency units were called to the scene at 7:37 a.m.

Cole said the man was not wearing a helmet and speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Responding to the scene were MCSO, Custer Fire Department, and Life EMS.
