Scottville commission to consider cemetery rate changes.

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville City Commission is expected to take action today on changing rates for burials and lot purchases at Brookside Cemetery. The commission will consider a proposal to charge an additional fee for non-residents utilizing the city-owned cemetery, charges to city residents (which includes anyone owning a residential property within the city, including a spouse and/or any minor children).

The non-resident charges will be as follows:

• Site purchase: Single grave space: $450 (resident, $300), odd size site, $5.50 per square feet.
• Interment:
  • Openings, $750 (resident, $600)
  • Still born, $300 (resident, $200)
  • Cremains, $300 (resident, $200).

There is an additional charge of $100 for Saturday rates and also $100 per hour for burials that go beyond or start after 4 p.m. Sunday burials are not allowed.

City Manager Amy Williams said the resident/non-resident rates were past practice and had been changed over the last few years and it is consistent with policies of other county municipalities.

The city commission meets at 5:30 p.m. at city hall, 105 N. Main St.
