Benefit to raise funds for Custer sculpture.

CUSTER — A benefit is being held to raise money for the sculpture that is planned to be installed in the Village of Custer. The benefit will take place Sunday, Nov. 11 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Johnny’s Roadhouse, 2278 E. US 10.

The sculpture is part of the Mason County Sculpture Trail, which includes exhibits in Ludington, the Ludington State Park, Mason County Fairgrounds, and the Village of Fountain, with plans for an installation in Scottville as well. Its theme will be “Johnny’s Bandstand” and will pay tribute to the iconic entertainment complex that was started by brothers John and Tony Urban in 1948 (see related story). It will be placed in a park located near Mason County Eastern Schools on Main Street.

The event will include local bands Shotman and Cats N Jammers. It will also feature a silent auction with the main items being a one-of-a-kind quilt with pictures of artists who have played at Johnny’s of Custer over the years.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10. Food can be purchased in the sports bar; beverages will also be for sale.
